Star Wars & the Power of Costume – Transformation of Palpatine

Scheming, powerful, and evil to the core, Darth Sidious restored the Sith and destroyed the Jedi Order. Living a double life, Sidious was in fact Palpatine, a Naboo Senator and phantom menace. He slowly manipulated the political system of the Galactic Republic until he was named Supreme Chancellor — and eventually Emperor — ruling the galaxy through fear and tyranny.

This display is of the robes worn by Palpatine as he progressed through time from Senator to Supreme Chancellor to Emperor. Notice the change in the robes from flowing, light and open to closed, dark and foreboding. This ‘look’ predicted the coming changes and eventually the revealing of Palpatine as Darth Sidious, the new leader of the Sith.
